Shop Boss is an Auto Repair Shop Management Application.
It offers a web-based approach to managing your shop.
Shop Boss Pro was designed by a former shop owner. While looking for an application to manage his own shop, he discovered there were only 2 choices: Good software that has a high price tag or affordable software that offered few features and was difficult to use. Unsatisfied with either option, he created Shop Boss Pro.
Shop Boss Pro represents the latest in web-based technology to create an auto repair shop software management system with excellent features, but at a price to fit any shop’s budget.
Why Shop Boss Was Developed
About 20 years ago, founder, Chris Boshaw, was part owner of an auto repair shop in San Diego. At the time, there were very few shop management software programs at an affordable price. With a background in computer programming, he decided to develop his own auto mechanic software. He formed the company Shop Boss soon after. At Shop Boss, we began as a desktop application, but soon we realized that most software was going to be moving to the Internet. As we began to develop the application further, we noticed many things that shop owners wanted but were unable to get from their current software programs. For example, as a web-based auto mechanic software application, we offer unlimited users for each shop. Both programs charge for more than two or three. In addition, we built a customer portal that allowed customers to see the repair progress on their vehicles, and even approve the repair work for the shop. After seeing this level of early on success, we began to redevelop the application to a web-based platform. Our second version of Shop Boss, building our first web-based version, was designed and developed on a single server located in San Diego, CA. We now currently run our program from many different servers located in different parts of the country. Since our creation, we’ve added hundreds of features that have been recommended to us by the shops that use our program. Some of those features include digital vehicle inspections, integrations with shop websites, electronic signature and go paperless options, and integrated estimating and parts ordering. Most of these features were recommended to us by our shops as failings they found in their own programs that they were currently using.
About Chris Boshaw | The Founder of Shop Boss
Chris’s professional career started in the automobile industry at a retail car dealership. After 13 years in sales and management he realized that computers were his real passion. From there, he went on to develop Shop Boss’s managerial auto mechanic software and became part owner in an automotive repair shop in San Diego. During the time he was a part owner of that shop, he learned a great deal about the unique needs of the independent automotive repair shop. He also noticed many shops around him were still using pen and paper. He saw that their filing systems were enormous and that it would take forever to find information about customers’ repair history. He understood the importance of incorporating repair history in an auto repair shop application. He also realized that in today’s market, integrations with other applications was critical. Since no one company could do everything for everyone, Shop Boss created, and is continuing to create, connections with many suppliers of information and services for automotive repair shops. When working with hand-written repair orders, a shop is faced with one of two choices. He must either rewrite all customer and vehicle information each time a customer comes in for repairs, or as is more common, they will simply put the customer’s last name and the year make and model. This makes it much more difficult to track customer repair history and customer retention.
